A Diesel particulate filter is an emission tool designed to filter out harmful diesel particulate matter (also known as soot) from exhaust gases from diesel engines.
Some DPFs also have coatings of precious metals and act as catalysts to reduce levels of Carbon Monoxide & Carbon Dioxide – both of which are greenhouse gases.
For Automotive DPFs the core is generally made from Silicon Carbide (SiC)
It is arranged in a series of channels that are plugged at one end, catching the particulate matter while allowing the exhaust gases to pass through the porous walls and out through the exhaust system. They offer a high level of filtration efficiency of up to 95%.
Engine management systems monitor the build-up of soot within the DPF and perform an operation called regeneration to clear it. When this no longer occurs a full clean or a replacement may be required
A DPF can be recycled when it is no longer functional. At this moment begins our work. The rare-earth elements inside the converter, including platinum, palladium, and rhodium, are extracted. Rates paid for DPFs vary depending on the type and market prices.
